Restorative yoga is a deeply relaxing style of yoga practice. It is not an active practice. There are only five or six poses used in the class but they do include light twists, seated forward folds and gentle backbends.
In restorative yoga, poses are held from five to as long as twenty minutes. Doing this time, you are held in poses, while being fully supported with blankets, blocks, and/or bolsters. Being fully supported in these poses could help open up your lungs, release tension in you lower back or perhaps just help you feel comfortable enough to ‘let go’ of anything weighing you down.
Benefits of restorative yoga can include:
- Enhanced flexibility
- Deeply relaxes the body
- Stills the mind
- Improves capacity for healing and balancing
- Enhances mood states
In the gentle flow class, the focus is on moving mindfully. Using your breath to hold a pose, as well as, transition between the poses. No headstands or intense inversions but a flow that will leave you feeling stretched out, balanced and ready to take on the rest of your day. This is a great class for beginner and experienced yogis alike.
